About the role

This role focuses on developing and maintaining core data models and pipelines within Coinbase's central data management system. The work spans user, transaction, and compliance data across both retail and institutional product lines. It requires a comprehensive approach, from initial architecture through deployment and ongoing maintenance, to ensure robust data infrastructure.

A key aspect of this position is establishing and upholding data integrity. This involves implementing data quality checks, defining data contracts, and setting up validation logic and monitoring systems. The goal is to proactively identify and resolve data issues before they can impact downstream reports or workflows, collaborating with engineering teams to address data gaps at their source.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting critical, time-sensitive data needs, such as regulatory exams, audits, and ad hoc requests from regulators. This requires balancing immediate reactive tasks with long-term foundational projects. Additionally, the role involves automating manual processes into scalable pipelines and self-service tools, empowering other teams to access and analyze data independently.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $152,405 to $179,300 USD, with the exact amount varying by location.

Skills that matter here

  • SQL: Proficiency in SQL is essential for building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines and models.
  • Python: Python is used for developing and managing data pipelines and automating workflows.
  • dbt: Experience with dbt is required for transforming and modeling data within the data warehouse.
  • Snowflake: Experience with Snowflake (or similar modern warehouse platforms) is necessary for working with Coinbase's data infrastructure.
  • Databricks: Experience with Databricks (or similar modern warehouse platforms) is necessary for working with Coinbase's data infrastructure.

Who this role suits

  • A person who takes ownership of data issues across the entire stack, rather than passing them on.
  • Someone who can balance urgent, reactive data requests with long-term strategic projects.
  • An individual who excels at transforming manual processes and undocumented knowledge into robust, automated infrastructure.
  • A professional who values accuracy and timeliness in high-stakes data environments like regulatory reporting.

From the employer

What you'll do:

  • Own end-to-end development of production-grade data models and pipelines at the core of the CDM, covering user, transaction, and compliance data across retail and institutional product lines, from architecture through deployment and maintenance.
  • Build data quality checks, data contracts, validation logic, and monitoring that protect data integrity before issues propagate to downstream reports or workflows.
  • Partner with upstream engineering teams to fix data gaps and absorb product changes at the source, taking accountability for data issues anywhere in the stack rather than passing them downstream.
  • Support live regulatory exams, audits, and ad hoc regulator requests with accurate, timely data, balancing time-sensitive reactive work with long-term foundational projects.
  • Automate recurring manual workflows into scalable pipelines and self-serve tooling, enabling downstream teams and AI agents to answer their own questions.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience building and maintaining production data pipelines and data models, with strong proficiency in SQL, Python, dbt, and a modern warehouse platform (Snowflake, Databricks, or similar).
  • Track record implementing data quality frameworks including data contracts, validation logic, reconciliation, and monitoring to catch issues before they reach downstream reports.
  • Experience supporting time-sensitive, high-stakes data needs (regulatory exams, audits, or financial reporting) where accuracy and timeliness are non-negotiable.
  • Demonstrated ability to turn tribal knowledge and recurring manual workflows into durable, documented infrastructure.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Pay Transparency Notice:

  • Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
  • Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $152,405 — $179,300 USD.
