Regulatory Counsel - South Korea

About the role

The Regulatory Counsel will serve as a key legal advisor for Binance's business activities in South Korea. This involves offering comprehensive legal support, from general advice and contract review to assisting with negotiations across various legal domains such as commercial, corporate, labor, and intellectual property law. A core responsibility is to proactively identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, providing strategic guidance to local teams.

A significant part of this role focuses on regulatory compliance. The counsel will continuously monitor and interpret Korean laws and regulations relevant to the business, ensuring Binance adheres to all local requirements. This includes developing and implementing local legal and compliance programs, engaging with Korean regulatory authorities, and supporting internal stakeholders with filings, licensing, inquiries, and investigations.

Success in this position requires a pragmatic approach to legal advice, balancing business objectives with regulatory compliance. The salary for this position ranges from $30,000 to $50,000 USD.

• Provide comprehensive legal and regulatory support to local business teams in Korea, including general legal advice, contract review, and negotiation assistance across a broad range of legal areas such as local commercial law, corporate law, labor law, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance.

• 5-8 years of experience in regulatory legal roles, preferably within the payments, fintech, or cryptocurrency sectors.
• Experience in legal and regulatory practices relevant to Korean financial regulations. Involvement in licensing or direct interaction with Korean regulatory bodies.
• In-house legal experience within Financial Services, Fintech, Technology, or related regulated industries is highly preferred.
• Strong expertise in Korean regulatory and compliance frameworks, with a solid understanding of local laws affecting financial and technology sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic legal advice balancing regulatory requirements and business needs.
• Proven track record of working independently in a fast-paced, global environment, collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple locations.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver clear, actionable counsel under tight deadlines.
