About the role

This role focuses on providing legal and regulatory guidance to Binance's local teams in South Korea. The work involves offering general legal advice, reviewing contracts, and assisting with negotiations across various legal areas including commercial, corporate, labor, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. A key aspect is proactively identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks, ensuring the business operates within Korean legal frameworks.

The Regulatory Counsel will be responsible for staying informed on Korean laws and regulations relevant to the business. This includes monitoring new developments, interpreting their impact, and providing strategic advice to maintain compliance. The position also entails drafting and negotiating agreements, conducting risk assessments, and balancing business objectives with regulatory requirements.

Success in this position means leading the development and implementation of local legal and compliance programs, including engaging with Korean regulatory authorities. The counsel will support internal stakeholders with regulatory filings, licensing processes, and responses to inquiries or investigations. This requires a hands-on approach and strong project management skills to manage complex legal and regulatory projects independently.

The salary for this position ranges from $30,000 to $50,000 USD.

• Proactively identify regulatory and legal risks, propose solutions, and anticipate support needs to deliver strategic and practical legal guidance to local teams.
• Monitor, interpret, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of Korean laws, regulations, and regulatory developments relevant to the business, providing strategic advice to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

• 5-8 years of experience in regulatory legal roles, preferably within the payments, fintech, or cryptocurrency sectors.
• Experience in legal and regulatory practices relevant to Korean financial regulations. Involvement in licensing or direct interaction with Korean regulatory bodies.
• In-house legal experience within Financial Services, Fintech, Technology, or related regulated industries is highly preferred.
• Strong expertise in Korean regulatory and compliance frameworks, with a solid understanding of local laws affecting financial and technology sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic legal advice balancing regulatory requirements and business needs.
• Proven track record of working independently in a fast-paced, global environment, collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple locations.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver clear, actionable counsel under tight deadlines.
