Senior Software Engineer - Coinbase

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer at Coinbase, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of token and wrapped asset initiatives. This includes designing and deploying smart contracts, developing APIs, and ensuring successful production rollouts across various blockchain networks. Your work will directly impact the company's ability to launch, upgrade, and migrate tokens efficiently and securely.

A core part of this role involves building and operating Go services and smart contracts that manage the minting, burning, bridging, and reconciliation of wrapped assets. You will ensure the correctness of both on-chain and off-chain systems. This position requires a deep understanding of distributed systems and a commitment to maintaining high reliability for critical services.

Success in this role means driving significant improvements to the asset transformation and migration pipeline, making these processes faster and safer at scale. You will collaborate with various internal teams, including Trading, Custody, USDC, and Compliance, to deliver customer- and revenue-impacting work that advances innovation within the crypto space. You will also contribute to team quality by mentoring junior engineers and establishing technical patterns.

The annual base salary for this role ranges from $186,065 to $218,900 USD, excluding equity and bonus eligibility.

• Own end-to-end delivery of complex token and wrapped asset initiatives, from smart contract deployment through API design, SLOs, and production rollout across multiple chains.
• Build and operate the Go services and smart contracts that mint, burn, bridge, and reconcile wrapped assets, ensuring correctness across on-chain and off-chain systems.
• Drive improvements to the asset transformation and migration pipeline, making it dramatically faster and safer to launch, upgrade, and migrate tokens at scale.
• Partner across Trading, Custody, USDC, Compliance, and the broader crypto stack to ship customer- and revenue-impacting work that advances onchain innovation.
• Lead on-call ownership for team services, building observability, runbooks, and operational improvements that keep Tier-0 systems reliable.
• Strengthen team engineering quality by onboarding and coaching junior engineers, contributing to design reviews, and establishing patterns that raise the technical bar.

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering with proficiency in at least one backend language (Go preferred), including designing, building, and operating production backend services at scale.
• Hands-on blockchain experience, either from smart contract development (Solidity/EVM), onchain integrations, or building services that transact onchain.
• Demonstrated experience with distributed systems patterns including APIs, event-driven architectures, data reconciliation, and on-call ownership.
• Track record of owning complex projects with autonomy in fast-moving, multi-chain or multi-system environments.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

• Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
• Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065—$218,900 USD.
