This role at Tether focuses on navigating the complex and evolving landscape of global AI governance and policy. The Head of Regulatory Affairs will be responsible for tracking regulatory changes, assessing their impact, and advising leadership on potential risks and opportunities. A key part of the work involves proactively influencing regulatory frameworks and ensuring the company's readiness for compliance with international regulations.

The position requires significant engagement with external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, industry groups, and policymakers. This involves leading advocacy efforts and participating in discussions to shape the regulatory environment for AI and peer-to-peer technologies. Internally, the Head of Regulatory Affairs will collaborate with R&D, legal, and compliance teams to embed regulatory considerations directly into the design and deployment of new AI models and technologies.

Success in this role means establishing Tether as a thought leader in AI and P2P regulation, both within the company and externally. This includes educating internal teams on emerging regulatory issues and best practices. The individual will be instrumental in developing and executing regulatory strategies that identify optimal markets for operation, ensuring the company maintains compliance while advancing its innovative product suite.

The annual salary for this role ranges from $175,000 to $272,300 USD.

Responsibilities

• Policy Advocacy, Monitoring, Analysis and Guidance: Monitor, analyse and communicate changes in global regulatory policies, and advise executive leadership on potential regulatory risks and opportunities, while driving initiatives to influence regulatory frameworks as well as monitoring for change across regulations to ensure proactive compliance where required.
• Regulatory Advocacy and Thought Leadership: Leading or participating in regulatory agency interactions and advocacy work regarding legislation relevant to this field. Engaging with relevant regulatory authorities, industry bodies, collaborative communities, and policymakers to shape the regulatory landscape for AI and P2P.
• Regulatory Strategy Development: As appropriate, leading the development and execution of regulatory strategies, identifying preferable market/s from which to operate, and to ensure the company’s readiness for compliance with relevant national and international regulations.
• Cross-functional Leadership and Product Development: Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., R&D, legal, compliance) in both Tether and with our partners to integrate regulatory considerations into the design and deployment of AI models and technologies, as applicable.
• Thought Leadership: Act as a thought leader both externally and within the organization, educating internal teams on regulatory issues, trends, and best practices in the AI and P2P space.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior regulatory role, ideally within the technology, AI, or digital industries.
• Extensive Hands-on experience in AI regulation is essential (non negotiable).
• Expertise on AI Governance & AI policy not only in Europe but in different jurisdictions (This is a must since this is a global role).
• Strong knowledge of global AI regulations, data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR), and emerging trends in AI and P2P governance.
• Legal, compliance, or policy background with a deep understanding of ethical AI principles is a plus.
• Demonstrated understanding of decentralised, self-sovereign and locally executed AI/P2P architectures—and the regulatory implications of these models—distinct from traditional centralised platform approaches.
• Demonstrated experience working with regulators and government bodies advocating and advising in a regulatory capacity, with demonstrated achievements securing favourable policy positions on behalf of another organisation.
• Expertise in preparing complex regulatory documents and other major regulatory submissions, including the preparation and execution of interactions with regulatory authorities.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Policy, Computer Science, or related fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise complex regulatory topics for non-technical audiences.
• Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders across borders and time zones.
