Engineer
Role in brief
Soter Labs is hiring an Engineer to build and maintain a smart contract monitoring framework for the Sky ecosystem, a large decentralized finance system. This role involves managing high-value production systems, ensuring security, and executing governance-driven changes. It suits an experienced EVM engineer with a deep understanding of Solidity and a proactive approach to problem-solving in high-stakes environments.
About the role
This role focuses on developing and implementing a comprehensive monitoring framework for all smart contract types within the Sky ecosystem, including Layer 2 deployments. The engineer will research and propose monitoring approaches, then build out the system, collaborating with risk teams to define response protocols. The work involves managing deployments and monitoring vaults that secure significant capital, along with executing parameter changes based on governance decisions.
Soter Labs operates the governance and risk functions for the Sky ecosystem, which is a major decentralized capital allocation system. The team handles the full operational cycle, from supporting decision-making and managing governance processes to ensuring security and monitoring. This position offers direct interaction with Sky Core developers and ecosystem partners.
Success in this role means ensuring the security and integrity of smart contracts handling substantial financial value. The engineer will be responsible for identifying potential issues, proactively proposing solutions, and maintaining robust monitoring systems. The ability to work autonomously and manage critical production systems with precision is key to thriving in this environment.
The base salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $200,000, with additional bonuses paid in cash or SKY tokens.
Skills that matter here
- Solidity: Fluency in Solidity is essential for understanding EVM security patterns and working with smart contracts in the Sky ecosystem.
- Foundry: This tool is part of the stack used for smart contract development and testing within the role.
- Hardhat: Experience with Hardhat will be utilized for smart contract development and deployment tasks.
- TypeScript: TypeScript is part of the technical stack, indicating its use in related development or tooling.
- Tenderly: Tenderly is listed in the stack, suggesting its use for monitoring and debugging smart contracts.
Who this role suits
- You are a first-principles problem solver who identifies gaps and proposes improvements without needing explicit direction.
- You possess a deep understanding of the Sky ecosystem and are genuinely curious about its vision.
- You are comfortable owning high-value production systems where errors carry significant financial consequences.
- You approach every deployment, transaction, and parameter change with meticulous rigor, recognizing the substantial capital involved.
From the employer
What You’ll Do (at the beginning)
- Research and propose an approach for monitoring all smart contract types across the ecosystem, including L2 deployments; iterate on it with feedback from Sky Core devs and external partners
- Implement the monitoring framework; collaborate with risk teams to define response processes and to operate and evolve the monitoring over time
- Manage the deployment and monitoring of vaults holding hundreds of millions of dollars
- Execute parameter changes driven by governance requests
- Take on further projects, scoped based on ecosystem needs and your competencies
What We’re Looking For (Required)
- Eagerness to contribute to Sky: understanding of the Sky ecosystem, genuine curiosity and interest in the vision, and willingness to grow within the ecosystem
- A first-principles problem solver: someone who identifies gaps others miss and proactively proposes improvements, rather than waiting for a spec
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with production EVM/smart contract work
- Solidity fluency and deep understanding of EVM security patterns (access control, oracle mechanics, upgradeability, cross-chain/L2 messaging)
- Comfort owning high-value production systems where mistakes are expensive and irreversible; you treat every deployment, transaction, and parameter change with the rigor that hundreds of millions of dollars demand
Very Nice to Have
- Prior experience with smart contract risk analysis in high-stakes environments (a huge plus)
- Experience with L2 infrastructure (OP Stack, Arbitrum) and bridge/messaging security
Compensation
- $120-200k base, pls bonuses paid in cash or SKY tokens
