About the role

This role focuses on transforming Alpaca's People Operations from manual processes to a data-driven, scalable function. The Director will be responsible for owning and optimizing the global HRIS, integrating it with other essential tools like payroll and ATS to ensure data accuracy and streamline reporting. This involves regular audits of system permissions and workflows to maintain security and provide an intuitive user experience across the organization.

A key part of the position involves standardizing the entire employee lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding, for a global workforce. This includes designing competitive benefits and leave programs across various international markets. The Director will also establish a support model to efficiently handle employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and policies, ensuring quick and accurate resolutions.

The role requires a strong emphasis on governance, compliance, and policy. The Director will monitor and implement changes to labor laws in all operating jurisdictions, maintain the Global Employee Handbook, and lead internal audits. Additionally, the position involves establishing rigorous data entry standards for People metrics and developing dashboards to provide leadership with insights into performance trends and retention drivers, collaborating with Finance on compensation and equity analysis.

The compensation for this role ranges from $98,000 to $162,000 USD annually, in addition to stock options.

Core Responsibilities:

  • HR Systems & Tech Stack Management
  • Own and optimize the global HRIS (BambooHR), ensuring it serves as the single source of truth for all employee data.
  • Integrate HR systems with peripheral tools (Payroll, ATS, Slack, Equity Management) to eliminate manual data entry and ensure "one-click" reporting.
  • Audit system permissions and workflows regularly to ensure security, privacy, and an intuitive user experience for managers and individual contributors.
  • Operational Excellence & Employee Lifecycle
  • Standardize the end-to-end employee lifecycle, from seamless global onboarding to professional and compliant offboarding.
  • Design and manage scalable benefits, leave-of-absence programs, and perks that remain competitive across various international markets.
  • Build a tiered internal support model to resolve employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and policies with high speed and accuracy.
  • Governance, Compliance & Policy
  • Monitor and implement changes to labor laws and employment regulations across all operating jurisdictions to ensure 100% compliance.
  • Author and maintain the Global Employee Handbook, ensuring policies are clearly communicated, culturally relevant, and legally sound.
  • Lead internal audits and risk assessments related to employment practices, classification, and workplace safety.
  • Data Hygiene & Strategic Analytics
  • Establish rigorous data entry standards to ensure all People metrics (headcount, turnover, time-to-hire) are accurate and audit-ready.
  • Develop and socialize monthly/quarterly People Dashboards that provide leadership with insights into performance trends and retention drivers.
  • Collaborate with Finance on compensation benchmarking and equity analysis to ensure internal parity and market competitiveness.
  • Process Engineering
  • Defragment existing manual processes by building automated workflows that reduce administrative "drag" on executives and department heads.
  • Define and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all People Ops functions to ensure business continuity as the team grows.
