About the role

This position involves leading a team of Safety Managers, Specialists, and paramedics to establish and maintain safety processes at a new Zalando logistics facility. The core responsibility is to ensure the site adheres to legal requirements across occupational safety, health, fire, and environmental protection. This includes advising management and employees, developing emergency plans, and reporting on key safety metrics.

The Lead Safety will also manage personnel within their team, including planning and mentoring. Collaboration is key, as the role requires working with professional associations, local authorities, and internal departments. The successful candidate will organize essential safety training and act as a representative for the safety department in various projects and events.

Success in this role means proactively identifying and addressing safety challenges, optimizing processes, and strengthening the overall safety culture. It requires staying current with occupational and fire protection developments and being prepared to pursue additional qualifications in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE). The role emphasizes independent work and clear communication to convey safety knowledge effectively.

The salary for this full-time position ranges from $33,750 to $56,250 USD.

• Ensure compliance with legal requirements for occupational safety, health protection, fire protection, and environmental protection.
• Advise management and employees on all aspects of occupational safety, health protection, fire protection, and environmental protection.
• Lead your team both disciplinarily and professionally, manage personnel planning, and promote your colleagues through targeted mentoring.
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of emergency concepts and reporting systems.
• Create evaluations and reports on key safety metrics and initiate preventive measures in close coordination with your management team.

• Organize training for first aiders, fire protection, and evacuation helpers.

• Successfully completed a technical degree or comparable training with a technician, engineering, or master’s degree.
• Qualification as a safety specialist (according to ASiG), safety engineer, and fire protection officer, along with three or more years of professional experience in safety/occupational safety.
• Knowledge in environmental management.
• Stay updated on developments in occupational and fire protection and be eager to obtain additional qualifications in HSE.
• Take full responsibility for your tasks and independently identify new challenges.
• Proactively develop ideas to optimize processes and strengthen our safety culture.
• Proficient in using software, apps, and web tools, with a desire to deepen knowledge in Google Workspace.
