About the role

This role focuses on providing legal guidance concerning U.S. regulatory and law enforcement expectations within the crypto and financial sectors. Responsibilities include advising on AML, sanctions, securities, and commodities laws, as well as coordinating with the Legal Department on regulatory litigation. The counsel will also advise on responses to regulatory investigations, enforcement actions, and compliance reviews, especially those impacting AML and sanctions programs.

The position requires communicating with U.S. regulatory agencies and working with cross-functional teams to ensure legal obligations are met. This involves partnering with compliance, risk, and business teams on complex legal matters within the U.S. jurisdiction. The counsel will also provide advice on evolving U.S. regulatory developments and support regulatory filings, investigations, and remediation efforts.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $112,000 to $188,000.

• Provide expert legal guidance on U.S. regulatory and law enforcement expectations, particularly those relating to crypto and financial regulations, AML, sanctions, securities laws, commodities laws, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Coordinate with members of the Legal Department and management regarding regulatory litigation matters and relationships with U.S. government agencies and regulatory bodies.
• Advise on the company’s response to regulatory investigations, enforcement actions, and compliance reviews, particularly as they relate to and impact AML and sanctions compliance programs.
• Communicate with U.S. regulatory agencies, and their agents, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
• Provide guidance and counsel in coordination with cross-functional teams to effectively comply with legal obligations.
• Partner closely with internal stakeholders, including compliance, risk, and business teams, to address complex legal and regulatory matters of significant sensitivity and impact within the U.S. jurisdiction.
• Provide advice on evolving U.S. regulatory developments affecting the crypto and financial sectors, advising the business on potential risks and compliance strategies.
• Support regulatory filings, investigations, remediation efforts and enforcement matters as needed.

• Demonstrated expertise assisting with legal issues, including experience with litigation and contentious regulatory matters, preferably involving U.S. financial regulators such as FinCEN, SEC, CFTC, OFAC, and state regulators.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. AML and sanctions compliance programs, with practical experience supporting or advising on these frameworks.
• Deep understanding of U.S. financial products, including spot trading, margin trading, futures, and options, especially within the crypto industry.
• Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage complex legal issues proactively.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, capable of conveying complex legal concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• In-house legal experience and experience with internal remediation efforts are a plus.
